“ERETZ is indeed ‘Israel Geographic’ – a wonderful gateway to the beautiful face and vibrant character of the state and society of Israel.”
Shimon Peres, Former President and Prime Minister of Israel
This edition of ERETZ: The Book follows in the footsteps of the previous compendium of articles, which we published 10 years ago. While in ERETZ: The Book 1985-2005 we tried to give as broad a picture as possible of the articles over the years – from nature and history to modern Israel – this time, the sheer volume of articles makes doing so impossible.
Reading through the hundreds of articles in the 60 issues of ERETZ Magazine that we published in the last 10 years, we also realized that a major change has come about in the understanding of the history of this land. New technologies introduced into archaeological research have led to new insights into the various chapters in the history of this land. Ideas that were still prevalent a decade ago, about prehistory, the Canaanite cities, the Philistines, the formation of the Israelite people, and much more, are today obsolete.
In this book, we have tried to focus on the shifting perspective of the ever-changing understanding of the past. We have organized the articles according to archaeological periods for easier reading.
ERETZ Magazine is now in its thirtieth year and still going strong. With subscribers in over 64 countries, a lively website, guides for smart phones, a series of books, and of course our magazines, we remain dedicated to a single goal: bringing knowledge of this land and the heritage of the Jewish people to a wider and wider audience.

About ERETZ Magazine:
“Over the past 20 years, I have been able to stay connected to the land and the people of Israel as I explored the country’s archaeological, historical and cultural pathways by travelling the pages of ERETZ Magazine.”
Al Gore, Former Vice President of the United States
“When I first went to Israel in 1986, I spent an entire week, and I traveled everywhere. And this wonderful fellow by the name of Yadin Roman, who’s the publisher of Eretz Israel magazine, was my guide and took me around. And he was brilliant, and he knew the history of everything and told me all the details of everything I was seeing…”
US Secretary of State John Kerry
“I wanted to sincerely thank you for sending me the book entitled Hidden Gems of Israel. Much like the State of Israel itself, the book proves that sometimes, good things can come in small packages. The gorgeous photos and wonderfully informative text will speak volumes as we continue to educate the public about Israel’s creative and cultural contributions.”
Ambassador Ido Aharoni, Consul General of Israel in New York
